the orc was carrying a hand axe, which would make a better close-range weapon than the dagger i started with. the description says it's "better for the strong", and strength is my highest attribute. weapons like axes, clubs and maces are useful with higher strength, while quarterstaves and swords are useful with higher dexterity.

i wield the hand axe and, uh oh, it's cursed. i won't be able to change weapons until i can uncurse it. i'll read a scroll of uncurse.

i havn't identified the scroll of uncurse yet - i havn't been cursed before! - but i have a hunch it's the scroll marked "tried": a scroll i read earlier, but which produced no effect, probably because i didn't have anything that needed uncursing.

sure enough, it's an uncurse scroll. the message "you feel as if something is helping you" indicates that every cursed item i'm wielding or wearing is no longer cursed.

while i'm replacing weapons, this blowgun and needles - found on a slain kobold - will make a handy replacement for my bow until i can find more arrows. needles are to blowguns as arrows are to bows, and these needles are poisoned: each one has a chance of poisoning its target when it hits.

now that i've replaced my two primary weapons, i want to make it so that i can swap between them the way i'd been swapping between the dagger and bow. the ' key switches between the weapon assigned to the letter a and the weapon assigned to b; i'll just reassign the hand axe to a and the blow gun to b. to do this i press the = key, and then, when prompted, the i key (for "items"). i type the current letter of the weapon - B - and then the new one: b. after repeating with the axe, i can now swap between my two new weapons at a keypress.
